Caring for your sterling silver jewellery

Sterling silver is an alloyed metal, normally made of 92.5% pure silver and some other metal in my case it's copper.  Sterling silver is a popular metal because of it's affordability but it can tarnish over time.

Tarnish is simply the result of a chemical reaction with oxygen or sulfur particles in the air.  With a few easy to follow tips, you can take care of your sterling silver and make it last forever.

PREVENT TARNISH WITH THESE DAILY WEARING TIPS

Wear it often. Believe it or not, your skin's natural oils will help keep silver jewellery shiny.  One of the easiest ways to prevent tarnish is to simply wear it.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR STERLING SILVER JEWELLERY

Soap & water is  our the most recommended method of cleaning.  Use a soft toothbrush, some warm water and a little squirt of washing up liquid. Rinse & dry. You may also make a paste with a little baking soda and water and gently clean using a cloth or a soft toothbrush.

After you've given your jewellery a good cleaning, you can finish the process by using a polishing cloth that's specifically for sterling silver.  I use Town Talk pink polishing cloths. They are available in most jewellery shops and Argos have them too.
